Does anybody else miss the curls? Just me?

Taylor Swift’s music video for her hit song, “I Knew You Were Trouble,” can be described in one word: acid. Now, whether or not that’s a good thing is entire up to you. As for me: I’m in.

This is by far the edgiest Taylor has gone in her music and it shows in this video. It’s dark, dangerous and fascinating. The opening starts a mystery of events leading us through the story of good girl gone bad.

I have to admit: at first I was unsure about what was happening – the opening monologue (dramatic but not necessary), the party wasteland, the flashbacks – but rest assured, if you stick with the video through the end the plot will come full circle.

Taylor’s effort is visually pleasing, risky, and the complete antithesis of her “Love Story” days. All in all, it’s a top contender for the best music video of the year – in any genre. I’m worried, though that her country audience won’t find it as appealing as I did. Taylor’s taken a 180 with IKYWT. It’s refreshing in one sense, and uncharacteristic in another.

Then again – Taylor’s on top of the pop and country world right now with no signs of stopping. And really, she’s never led us astray. At some point though, I want the curls to make a comeback!
