Toby Keith has long been a supporter of gun ownership in America, and that sentiment has not changed in the wake of the mass shooting tragedy in Charleston, South Carolina, last week. The singer, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York City just one day after the shooting, took time from his honor to chat with reporters about his stance on gun control, and it insist’s it’s not the correct response in minimizing senseless crimes.
It it can happen in church, it can happen anywhere,” he said (via the Associated Press). “Countries all over the world that have really strict fun policies, like Oslo, Norway. It happens there.”
In addition, Toby said that if an armed police officer had been at the church that evening, “maybe seven or eight of those nine people would still be alive.”
Dylan Storm Roof killed six men and three women at a bible study in Charleston. He is being charged with nine counts of murder.
